A Call to action and cover reveal

Devri Walls guests today on the Belle of Boise and doesn't hold back. She issues a call to action that even got this sassy Belle's eyebrow shooting up and eyes bugging wide. I see great things in gel's future. You'll think so too in just a second. Read on..

Fasten your seat belts ladies and gentlemen, it’s about to get a little inspiring around here! Not because of what I have done, oh no. Because of what you are all going to do when you are finished reading this. Today’s topic is, DO IT! Ok, ok, it lacks in originality. At least I refrained from saying Just Do It. I surely get points for self control.
How many things do you have sitting around in the back of your mind that you have always wanted to do? Some of those things will probably lay cluttered back there forever. For example, I have always wanted to work as a lawyer and a dolphin trainer. Let’s face it.,. not going to happen. But some of those things get tired of hanging around in the back of your head, ignored. They stand up once in a while and yell, “HEY! Pay attention to me!!” Those are the things we are going to talk about today. Are you going to just let them sit back there, occasionally yelling at you, forever? Sure, I understand they are not alone. They are surrounded by, silenced by, and beaten into submission by your fears and doubts. There is, ‘I can’t do it,’ followed by, ‘It’s too hard,’ saddled next to, ‘impossible!’ and ‘why me?’

Pxyis: YA With Color

So I haven't been posting as normally as I'd like in the review categories. But I have some new gals coming on and I can't wait until they get started. Until then there are those special people that I just have to make time for. One of them is K.C. Neal and her debut YA novel Pyxis.

This is a story that breaks ideas that people have about YA by leaps and bounds. But wait...it's not time for the review. First I'll let you know that the benevolent KC has offered up a Kindle to win and all you have to do is follow The Belle of Boise. Like KC's Facebook page. All the links and stuff are at the bottom through rafflecopter. Now for more about KC, her book and my review.

Six Sentence Sunday: Witch and Death

How I love Six Sentence Sunday. This one comes from my work in progress Forever Witch, the full length novel sequel to my novella Familial Witch. The different beings that have appeared in this novel have surprised even me. Mermaids, Eternals, enchantresses, witches, vampires, goddesses and now a being or messenger of Death. In this scene as Aisleen assumes a ghostlike form because she's battling for her life the being of Death appears to her and offers her a favor.

“I have roamed between realms taking the spirits that die from one world to another for longer than anyone can count. Only magical beings can see me other than those souls. During that time only one has paid me a kindness. Even in her greatest grief, she thought of me and not of herself.” Aisleen mused again how it was odd she could feel tears as a spirit. Memories of her sisters deaths assaulted her, for each time she had saw Death it was with their demise.

“I have waited to pay that kindness. So here I am kind Aisleen, at your service.”

Check out more more Six Sentence Sunday by clicking there and let me know what you think of a novel with a range of characters and beings.

Lucien Lemione, the clan leader of the feared and revered Eternals, is faced with the ultimate betrayal. His second in command for two centuries has not only created the most grievous of offenses but also commissioned the creation of liquid silver. When poisoned by this toxin, an immortal suffers a fate much worse than death, frozen in an internal prison. After being wounded when found spying, he hides deep within the eerie woods that encircle the Triad Mountains. Desperate and in pain, he prays to an offended mother goddess for help. Her answer: a woman, but not just any woman. A witch.
After losing her entire coven at the hands of the Eternals, Aisleen is the last of her kind. She retreats from the world to Trinity Forest where she is giving the opportunity of a lifetime, or perhaps a test of principles. It’s there she discovers the man she heals is the Eternal that wiped out her people. Although she is bound as a healer, she could be creative in her revenge. Aisleen knows who and what Lucien is…but does not speak of it. There can be no future with Lucien for she can only be with a mortal man. Even if she wanted to be with him, can she forgive the man that caused the genocide of her people?
Lucien must act quickly for the survival of his clan is at stake. However, Aisleen’s ethereal beauty and emerald eyes keep pushing those thoughts far from his mind. Determined to find out what secret she hides, he prolongs his time with her. When his people need him most what will he choose…duty, desire, or will he make his own fate?
You can choose love but you can’t choose destiny.

Six sentence Sunday the first of many dadadum

My first SSS how'd I do? Are you interested in my little novella?
Vampires and eternals had actually been at war for a century
before Lucien negotiated a truce between the clan leaders. Alistair
had been infuriated. While Lucien didn’t have any empathy for a
vampire, kidnapping and torture definitely went against the treaty
terms. Is that what Alistair wants…to begin the war again? No,
not that. He wondered what Alistair’s intentions were since
vampires and eternals shared a common weakness with silver…

What's up with YA fantasy?

Saturday was a good day. I had a date day spending time with my husband. We did some religious activities together and then, in our Sunday best, had a nutritious meal at the local McDonald's. As we ended our morning and went our separate ways, we both had errands and obligations to attend to, I suddenly found myself at the mall. Then just as suddenly I was knee deep and happily surrounded by my addiction. The Words. What my husband rather unaffectionately calls books.

I went to the store with the intentions of finding a cooking/diet book. Nevertheless, I found myself bouncing back and forth between the historical romance section and young adult fantasy section. I decided to purchase a book in YA about werewolves. I spent $20.00 on the hardback.

I left the book store so eagerly I almost forgot my original errand in the mall. I was bustling with the potential the new "words" could provide. I went straight home and did my chores quickly and saw to any potential needs my children might come up with so as not to be interrupted and thus igniting my Medusa like attributes.

Then I sat back on my super soft, down padded bed and snuggled up to get my fix. I must admit that what first attracted me to this book was the cover. This jacket was alluring, pivotal and beautiful. So you can imagine my utter dismay as I opened the book and ran my fingers along it's inner pages. I did not feel a smooth lattice work of equal proportions. The pages look like something my six year old cut out then put together with a stapeler. They are all misshapen and roungh edged.

Nevertheless, because of the junkie I am, I press forward. I made it to chapter 3 and could tell that I wasn't really happy with the way things were going. What do you think I did? What would you do? Remember I am a junkie. I read on. At about 11:00pm I was half way through the book and had met my breaking point.

I had endured several aspects of the story that I could look past. However, when the characters were being forced into situations of sexual abuse by authority figures of the straight and homosexual nature I was officially done. Not only am I done I will get my money back.

I used to read YA because I thought it would fall better within my ideas of moral reads. That is not the case anymore. The saddest thing about the whole ordeal is that this is not the first time this has happened. It is acutally quite common. There are also several common denominaters in my experiences as well. If it's YA fantasy set in modern times then it going to have something offensive to my own personal convictions more often than not. Why is that? Do teenagers really find joy is such sad and unacceptable behavoirs? Isn't fiction supposed to be fun? I will say when I do find the not. It's like finding a hidden snickers bar days after Halloween is over. Unexpected, satisfying and oh so sweet.

PS. I have purposely left the name of the novel out of this entry. I believe what I believe. Those are my personal opinions. I refuse to review a book in any form whether negative or positive when I cannot even finish it.
