Writer Wednesday: Print Isn't It....But It's Still Special

I've technically been an author since Feb of 2011. At a conference I learned there is a distinct difference between writers and authors. That difference is authors are published and writers aren't yet. While my first books released were  Familial Witch, then Caffe' Seduzione and I was thrilled. Both were limited to eBooks for reasons that my publishers and I both agreed upon.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE eBooks. As a reader and an author I'm thrilled with the invention. They are by far simply positive. As an author I make more money. As a reader I don't have to wait as long for releases or to purchase the book, and they are cheaper.

But recently I recognized that the print version is still special. Glazier released this week in print. There were several friends and family waiting to buy it so I was making the rounds of phone calls. When Gretchen posed this question.

"Do you feel like a real author now?"

(That's Gretchen for ya you call her to share amazing news and a simple question from her provokes hours of soul searching, deep thought, and reflection)

I immediately said I've always felt like a real author. Nevertheless, there is a sense of triumph when you hold the print version of your novel in your hands. As you turn the pages with your thumb, see your name and the title running down the spine, rub your cheek along....Oh sorry. (blushes) Anyways it was amazing in a word. So without further ado I present Glazier in print form. Now buy away and then review.

What say you other authors is print still special to you?

  1. i like it the old fashioned way ... i like to hold a book in my hand ... turn the page, smell the pages of a new book as the excitement grows of another great story to read ... but that's just me ... LOL ...

  2. Thanks Iris. I know the feeling. However, I am partial to my ereaders. I have a tablet and a Kindle. However I use the Kindle app on my tablet so I guess that's one in the same. LOL

  3. Yes, print is still very important to me. And even though ebooks have grown in popularity so much, I still think many readers prefer to buy print.

  5. I'm far from publishing, even in e-format, but suspect the thrill of having my name on a digital file will pale to the thrill of seeing it on a printed book.

    Congrats :)

  6. Okay, so I admit, I love my Kindle--I'm buying almost everything in ebook format now, but there are still close friends' books I'll buy hard copies. And yes, I LOVE having the paper copy of my book in my hand--there's something special about that as an author.

  7. Nothing like the feel of your own words in print right there in your hands...gotta admit. Interesting post. :D

  8. It's an ego thing to hold a book in your hands.

I'd much rather hold the royalty check in my hands. :)

  9. Hi buddy campaigner! I'm in your PNR group.

I like the convenience of e-books and as you said authors make more, but I truly do prefer the feel of a book, turning pages when I read. Some books I've read first on Kindle and loved so much I bought a hard copy.

  10. Sounds like most of us agree that print still feels special. I'm excited about the leap in e-readers, better for the environment and it opens up a whole new world to authors and readers. Given that, I know a majority of authors still crave that book in hand. We are tactile creatures and the act of turning the page is one that connects differently to our brains as well as to our hearts. Personally, published is published, but I love my books!

  12. I love my Kindle, but there are times I choose to buy the books. It could be because it has a beautiful cover or because it's well written, either way I just love to read! <3
