Seeking Hosts for the Sweet Witch & Erotic Enchantress Book Tour with Bri Clark & Kiki Howell

KiKi Howell and I have known each other (online at least) for a few years. And we are both very much into witches, magic and romance. However, we are on two different ends of that romance spectrum. I am what is known as a "Sweet" author while she is an "Erotic" author. 

 While we are both on very different ends of the romance scene we are both authors and friends. Over the past year I've seen authors, reviewers, and companies bash erotica and the publishers and writers of the genre. And while I myself do not write it I will not tolerate bullying. 

Initially when these attacks occurred several people went to their blogs to express their frustration at the unfairness. And then eventually it all fizzled out. 

But not I. I still wanted to do something. Something more than just a vent rant on my blog. 

I already support authors of different heat levels over at "Ravencraft's Romance Realm" where I contribute as a blogger.  And I just love those gals. But I again wanted to do something more. 

Which is how this very different tour was created. Not only are we sharing two series, but we are giving readers a choice. You can read both series (the books that are out now and the later ones as they release) or one of the other. You can interview KiKi, me or both of us. Same thing with guest posts.

While we are different we are authors first. And to quote Kristen Lamb and her fabulous WANA movement. We All Need Authors!

            I’m going to limit this to books.  Whenever I discuss most romantic lines in a movie, my friend Michelle brings up “Last of the Mohicans,” and “I will come for you.”  Yeah, that one’s pretty romantic but my mind always goes to “Yours, Mine, and Ours.”  The original one with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball.  Yeah, long time ago, in a time when movies were about people more than position.  Henry Fonda was a mid level (non commissioned) officer, and Lucille Ball was the widow of the same.  No officers, no fancy houses, just amazing acting.  There is a marvelous piece of dialogue between Fonda and a teenage boy about the reality of romance being far more than a quickie in the back seat of a car.

            But this is about books.

Turning Back the Hands of Time?!!

Can you imagine the possibility of being a fifty-five-year-old widow who never bore children and lived with the ability to psychically read animals? Now, imagine that same woman’s image in a mirror reflected back at her as a thirty-year-old.

Sounds divine, doesn’t it…you might even be feeling a bit envious if you’re over thirty…(me, too).

So it's been a while since I did a review or an interview. And the review isn't per my usual as I'm talking about two novellas. A book one and book two of a series. I apologize for my lack of reviewyness but hey I'm bringing something sweet and emotional. Lets get to the books shall we.

Bri~Trace of Passion is the second in a trilogy of novellas. What made you decide to go this route?

DR~What made me go with a trilogy? In all honesty, it's just how things turned out lol. My publisher wasn't happy with the ending of "A Trace of Love". They wanted me to flesh it out and give it a happier ending, but first of all, Ophelia wouldn't have it, and second I wanted to keep the story short. At the time I had been mulling around the idea to continue to story in my head, so I talked to my editor about it and she loved the idea of bringing the characters back, so it evolved into two books. But as soon as I finished writing Book 2, I knew there would have to be one more because there are some surprises at the end of Book 2 that Trace and Ophelia need to address before they can truly have their happy ending. 

Bri~Boy I can relate to that. Characters that demand things their own way are impossible to ignore. The heros name is actually Trace in your trilogy, as in each of your titles the same word is used. Was that planned? How did it come about?  

DR~Heehee. Yes I did that on purpose. I like to have titles that mean something or are a play on words. It's just something I like to do...Like a signature mark or something. I spend weeks with a dictionary and thesaurus open until I find the right combination of words. Sweet, simple, catchy, and will make the reader giggle once they figure it out. :) 
Bri~ I'm the same way. Little techniques or patterns that are distinctly me. Even if I'm the only one to now it's still important. Tell us about the third installment? Is this the end? There were two surprises at the end of Passion will those two be resolved?


DR~ Yes the third book, A Trace of Hope, will be the final installment. This might end up being a little longer than the fist two books, but the story will finally end. Makes me sad just thinking about it, but I also feel like I owe Trace and Ophelia their happy ending after everything I put them through.....


Bri~ Darn straight you do. They have been through a lot you spiteful woman. LOL 


Review


So I'm not one to summarize an already great blurb so I tend to leave those out of my reviews. In short I almost ripped Danielle a new laptop hole after I read Trace of Love because I wanted the sequel immediately. Trace and Ophelia are amazing characters. The way that Danielle can create characters of that kind of depth and a plot with such intensity in so few words is a testament to her craft and talent.

If this isn't the time of year for romance I don't know when is. Often times as romance authors or readers we are considered to have fanciful, unrealistic ideas about romance and love in general. And sadly some people have those issues.

On the other hand some readers of romance simply enjoy it for what it is...a good book...a good story. A happily ever after for now or a guy gets his girl or vice versa.

I am of the latter.

However, I also have fanciful ideas that's my relatioship with my husband can be deeply intimate and very fanciful indeed. Nevertheless, that requires work and a willingness to try on both parts. Which brings me to the choice of my prizes.

When I think of Sultry Summer Nights I think of air forces bases, muscle cars, baby tees and short shorts. My summers as a teen went from the back roads of humid middle Tennessee to the cool nights of North Carolina mountains. There was always somewhere to be and a cute guy to pick from. In my youth I lived for the moment and have the scars to prove it.

Bio

S.R. Claridge grew up in St.Louis, Missouri where she graduated from Lindbergh High School and furthered her education at the University of Missouri, Columbia, with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. She now resides in Colorado with her husband, two children and dog named Gigi.

She began her writing career being published for her poetry, lyrics and greeting cards, expounding into script writing and has found her niche in the fiction world of mystery and romantic suspense. She says it is her background in theatre and psychology that help her fill the pages of each novel with enough dramatic suspense to keep readers guessing until the very end.

Similar to the writing style of best-selling authors, Janet Evanovich and Mary Higgins Clark, S.R. Claridge's novels are sure

Interview

1.       Have you considered self publishing?If so elaborate on whatever your decision was.  Though it is a viable option for many writers, I never considered it for myself.  I desperately needed an outsider to read my work and love it enough to publish it.  It may sound strange, but I needed to feel “believed in” by someone outside of family and friends so that I could truly believe in myself. ( I can understand that. It's commendable and admirable)

2.       What’s the best/worst writing advice you have ever received?  One of the best pieces of advice I received was to enter contests and have my work critiqued.  These score sheets from publishers and editors were invaluable in helping me improve my skills as a writer. (I like that advice as well. I've entered contests and it's like with anything experience building is key to growing.)

3.       Do you feel that a romance has to have sex in order for it to be great?  Absolutely not! Sometimes I think sexual tension between two characters can be way hotter than the actual act of sexual contact.

4.      
           What draws you into a book?  An easy read, not too descriptive… I want to be able to use my own imagination and not have every teeny-tiny detail explained to me.  Likeable or humorous characters and a story that isn’t predictable.  (I agree. I love the tension in a story.)

5.       Where do you project to see yourself one year from now?  Wherever God wants me… I’m just along for the ride.  

6.       How would you define your writing career as a “success” and have you achieved it?  I have had some success in signing with a great publisher and jumped that hurdle of getting published.  Now, I think I determine my success in how people are responding to my books and how many books I can get out into the open market.  I don’t want my books only in the hands of a couple hundred people… I want them to go viral.
